On The Rim, Transamerica Pyramid, San Francisco, CA, 1997.
Nineteen ceramic bowls holding color transparencies of ocean are placed on a tinted steel table with the degrees of longitude imprinted on its edges. The reflection of transparent water images on white ceramic surface gives an impression that the bowls contain blue liquid. With each bowl rendering a varying scale of depth and space, it creates a spatial clarity of distance from either end of the table. The Pacific Ocean is fragmented and reduced into a miniaturized map focusing on a state of emotional and cultural ambiguities where defining a location becomes uncertain yet fluid.
